Controlling stereoselectivity of solid-state photoreactions by co-crystal formation.

An external heavy-atom effect in crystals was found to influence the reaction path of the photocyclization of cyclohexenones drastically, and that was successfully applied to control the cis-trans stereochemistry of the reaction by making co-crystals of heavy-atom containing and non-containing analogues in various ratios.

Ni2As2O7 pyrochlore nanomaterial: Solid state synthesis, crystal structure determination, crystal phase growth study and physical properties

Nanostructured Ni2As2O7 semiconductor samples were synthesized by a solid state method among As2O3 and Ni(NO3)2.6H2O raw materials at 650 °C (S1) and 750 °C (S2) as reaction temperatures. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) technique and F...

Synthesis & Characterization of CaB4O7 Powder by Solid-State Reaction

The synthesis of calcium tetraborate was investigated in a temperature ranging from 800℃ to 900℃ using the solid-state reaction method. The synthesis was done using ammonium tetraborate tetrahydrate as the source of boron. At temperatures of 800 ℃ and 880 ℃, the mixed phases from different compounds were formed. At the optimum temperature of 840℃, the mixed phase was only composed of meta and t...

A general method for phasing novel complex RNA crystal structures without heavy-atom derivatives

The crystallographic phase problem [Muirhead & Perutz (1963), Nature (London), 199, 633-638] remains the single major impediment to obtaining a three-dimensional structure of a macromolecule once suitable crystals have been obtained. Recently, it was found that it was possible to solve the structure of a 142-nucleotide L1 ligase ribozyme heterodimer that possesses no noncrystallographic symmetr...
